The Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue is not only a tribute to the Iron Man of India, but is also the first such tourist attraction located in India and is called the ‘Pride of the Nation’. It is located in Narmada district of Gujarat state, India. It is the tallest statue in the world with a height of 182 m (597 ft), taller than the 153 m tall Spring Temple Buddha in China and almost twice as tall as the world’s famous Statue of Liberty in New York.

Dedicated to India’s founding father and the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister, the Statue of Unity is a tribute to the man who united India. It is the world’s tallest, grand, huge and colossal statue of Indian politician and independence activist Sardar Vallabhai Patel. He was a political and social leader of India who played a major role in the country’s freedom struggle. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian independence movement and responsible for the unification of hundreds of princely states to form India’s modern political frontier.

The ‘Statue of Unity’ (SoU) is dedicated to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. An outstanding statesman, Sardar Patel is widely regarded as the architect of modern India. The SOU will stand as an inspiration for future generations, a reminder of the outstanding contribution of Sardar Patel and a symbol of national harmony and integrity.

The memorial will not only be a silent memorial like other monuments, but will be a fully functional, purposeful tribute that will accelerate all-round socio-economic development. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was an important voice in the freedom struggle of the country. The Statue of Unity is a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the leader of the Indian independence movement. With a height of 182 meters (597 ft), the monument is the tallest statue in the world. It is to be inaugurated during a grand ceremony on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31, 2018. This idol is situated in front of Narmada Dam, 3.2 km away on a river island called Sadhu Bet near Rajpipla in Gujarat.

The monument with its surroundings is spread over 20,000 square metres, and is surrounded by 12 km of artificial lake. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2013. 9. About 135 metric tonnes of iron was contributed by common people across India for use in the project. An engineering marvel, the construction of the Statue of Unity was completed in a record time of 33 months. It has been built by Larsen & Toubro Limited at a cost of Rs 2,989 crore. The Statue of Unity is made of 1,700 tonnes of bronze and 1,850 tonnes of bronze cladding on the exterior, while the interior of the statue is filled with concrete cement (180,000 cubic metres), reinforced steel (18,500 tonnes) and structured steel (6,500 tonnes). ,

About the place: On October 31, 2018, the world’s tallest statue – the Statue of Unity, was inaugurated in Kevadiya, Gujarat, against the backdrop of the dramatic Satpura and Vindhyachal hills. The 182-metre (about 600 ft) statue is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of independent India. The monumental monument towers over the Narmada River, India’s tribute to the leader ‘on behalf of the people of Gujarat’ who put the welfare of the people first. From the Statue of Unity one can see the vast surroundings and river basin of the Narmada River and the huge Sardar Sarovar Dam. It is situated on the Sadhu Bet hill, connected by a 300-metre bridge, which provides access to the idol from the mainland.

Sardar Sarovar Dam is one of the largest concrete gravity dam in the world which is 1.2 km long and 163 meters high from its deepest foundation level. It has 30 radial gates weighing around 450 tonnes.
